Healthy habits: medical advice and recommendations for a healthy lifestyle

Throughout our lives we must try to maintain healthy habits in order to have good health. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), health can be understood as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not only as the absence of disease or inf irmity. In other words, the term health includes a person’s well-being not only on a physical level but also on an emotional level and in terms of relationships with their environment. In El Antequirófano we will try to promote healthy habits that will help us to feel better, stronger and in better spirits

Maintaining healthy habits to improve our quality of life

Unfortunately, we have had to live through a terrible time. The pandemic generated by the COVID-19 virus has left indelible traces. And the future is yet to be defined. We do not know with certainty what the long-term consequences of the effects of this social and health crisis will be. On health professionals (who fight every day from the health centres for this to end), on people who have experienced the loss of a loved one or on patients who have managed to overcome the virus, with sequelae in some cases. Stories of pain and suffering fill the media every day. Then there are the consequences of confinement, restrictions, loss of freedoms. All this will surely have an emotional cost in the future.

In the meantime, let’s try to stay healthy. From El Antequirófano we recommend some healthy habits that can help us to improve our health and prevent certain illnesses. We are sure that they are well known to everyone, but we should not forget them

Examples of healthy habits

Maintain an adequate diet. Yes, it is difficult in this day and age. But we must try to maintain a balanced diet, eating foods that provide us with the nutrients we need to stay healthy. Proper nutrition is essential.

take regular physical exercise. Within your possibilities and always adapting the type of exercise to the possible pathologies you may have. Physical exercise is an excellent tool for promoting health and well-being

try to avoid alcohol, tobacco and other intoxicants. The negative effects of tobacco and alcohol consumption on health are well known

No stress. Long-term stress can be very damaging to health. Try to channel stress and anxiety as much as possible. It can help to do certain exercises such as yoga, breathing exercises, meditation, watch a good movie or series, read a good novel, etc. Try to find a place to escape and try to seek support from the people around you. If all this is not enough, ask your doctor for help

Rest. Adequate rest is essential to maintain good health. Sleep not only replenishes us physically, but also mentally. If we do not sleep, we are in a bad mood, we are irascible, we are not in the mood for exercise, etc. Ensuring adequate rest is essential for a good quality of life. Sleeping well can also improve our immune system

maintain proper hygiene both personally and at home. This helps prevent the development of infections and is essential to protect our health.
